Reception Place

I am sad to say that the place was already reserved so we will probably just have it in the stake center by my house. We reserved it this morning after I got the email from the man saying the other church was reserved.

I'm kind of bummed about it but relieved in a way. Bummed because I feel like we'll be missing out on having something outside when the weather is awesome. Bummed because I don't think it will be as cute indoors.   Relieved in that I won't have to worry about rain and then setting up part of the reception the morning of the wedding because it is an open place. Now we can set up the night before and have it all ready and we won't have to worry about it.

Centerpieces/Table Set Up

I thought this area should have its own post since that is one of the things I'm most worried about. So here are some more centerpiece arrangements or table set up ideas.

I saw some jars/vases similar to the one you see above at hobby lobby.
I put this one for the box because I saw a bunch of boxes baskets and wondered how one would set up the centerpiece with them.
Going green again with the plants cause we could keep these after the reception.

Here is a pretty and very simple set up. The skinny jars with a few flowers.

This one looks like a canning jar which I'm sure we could get our hands on. :)

Heres a lantern. I like that idea. I like the lemons because if we used them they would be free...well that is if they are in season in march. The small candles are also pretty cheap. :)

Small Touches

This thing of pictures would be cool to have before or after the video playing while the guests are waiting in line.

Websites we might use to buy stuff from

Papel Picado

Chinese Lanterns

Invitations

This is an area we haven't thought much about yet. M gave me the idea of these invitations to go along with the papel picado mexican theme. I am thinking we are going to be inviting up to 500 guests so these could be a bit pricey. Does anyone know of websites that have decent pricing for invitations? We will probably do some in english and some in spanish (for relatives that don't speak english) unless for some reason it is a lot more pricey to do so.

Flowers and Bouquet

BOUQUET IDEAS
I like all the colors in this bouquet. I even like the feathers. I found some feathers at hobby lobby that I wondered if they would look as good as this picture.

What are your thoughts on using silk flowers for the centerpiece? Is that tacky or cheap looking?

And what are your thoughts on using silk flowers for the bouquet? The only times I think about a bride having a bouquet is for pictures and when it is thrown. For pictures it seems like you wouldn't really be able to tell-but I could be wrong.

Today at Hobby Lobby the flowers were 50% and will be all week so I thought I should take advantage of that if I'm gonna  do silk flowers for anything. Who wants to go shopping with me?!!!  :)

Other fun ideas...

Pinata. I've never thought of doing this until recently when MT introduced the idea. I'm not sure if P likes the idea but I think it would add a little excitement...be fun for the kids and make the reception a different than the typical mormon reception (which is what we are going for).
I like the initials idea because I don't really get why you would hit a bride and groom or animals. Plus I think they look cool. :)

People could shake these as we were leaving and could also be used as a decoration. I've always liked the idea of sparklers as we left too. I reception I went to last night everyone made a tunnel  and the b&g ran through it as they were leaving.

Pedro's Suit or Tux

So we decided that he is gonna wear white and I 'm gonna wear a white dress. The pictures we take like a week before he will probably buy a new suit for those and possibly a gray one...but I still really like this tan one. I guess we'll see which color looks best on him. I think it will be fun to have two different sets of pictures.

Here's a picture of my brother (in his white suit)  and sister in law with my parents at their wedding in May. As I look at these I really like the yellow here.  Below is a picture of the family at their wedding.

BRIDESMAIDS & GROOMSMEN

So this is the official color of the bridesmaid dresses! Salmon rose or a coral. I thought doing headbands or flowers to put in the hair might tie everything in. Or maybe a bracelet? What is the opinion on the shoes? Do they have to be totally matching or can everyone wear what they want? I think white, black, silver, or brown would look good with this color.

Mo found this cardigan and I really like it and it would be easy for everyone to wear with a white shirt underneath and a black skirt.  These are $15. The exact coral color we were wanting I think is going to be hard to find but I feel like this is close enough and pretty much any shade of pink will look ok.

Here is a green tie and they have one for the little boys and they are $15 as well on this website.

Decorations

PAPER FLOWERS

LIGHTING

Above are the lighted chinese lanterns.

I like the big bulbs surrounding the dance floor.
I like the big bulbs here too. I'm wondering how difficult it would be to find them (possibly on sale after Christmas) and also how we could go about stringing the lights from trees or maybe poles? Notice the papel picado (cut paper).

                                                      TABLES & CENTERPIECES
Where can I rent some chairs like that? And how much does it cost?

I think I like the simplicity of the white tablecloth. They should be easy to find/borrow and for the most part free except for the cleaning of them afterward. I also like the idea of making the runner like they did in the picture above. I think it would be cool if the runners were all different colors and I would like to have the centerpieces all go together but be different at the same time. If that makes any sense?

I'm playing with the idea of long tables rather than round tables or having a combination of round and long tables. The brown tables are pretty too. Pedro and I were talking about having long tables set up in a u shape facing the dance floor so people could sit and watch rather than everyone standing and watching. I'm not sure if we will have a dance floor but the area  where we will dance, throw the bouquet, toss the garter and maybe break a pinata.

Use potted plants as centerpieces or combine fresh cut flowers with produce. Centerpieces could be edible arrangements consisting of wheat grass, herbs, or organic produce. Centerpieces could also be long lasting potted plants - both of which will reduce the amount of immediate waste following your wedding or event.

I want to get more info on this! If anyone has places where they get potted plants please let me know! I've always loved the idea of growing my own herbs and things so this would be a really cool way to get started with it and then I wouldn't feel like the money spent on the center pieces would go to waste right after the reception.

I'm loving the ideas of the tables above. I love all the different colors but we'd simplify the setting. We're not gonna have them set with the silverware, etc because the food is buffet style at the reception.  I found some lanterns at Hobby Lobby today but they were a lot different looking. They ranged from $15-$25. A ton of stuff was on sale today at HL but those weren't so I was hoping I could go back after Christmas and that they might be on sale then.
I don't think I liked the striped runner as much I like the floral one or just a plain color. I think the wheatgrass centerpiece could be worked into this set up as well. My goal is to have all the centerpiece stuff by the beginning of February and all the tin cans (that will hold flowers and also all of the jars. So we need to start collecting them from Pedro's family as well as mine. His family might use more of the authentic Mexican stuff so I need to make sure and have his mom save the cans.

Colors

MY COLOR IDEAS

The one above I really like the pinkish-red and other colors. It may be hard to find the exact colors I'm thinking. The one below is a little random but gives some different ideas. I like the pink and green together but I also really like the red and white in the middle. What I would really like is a plethora of colors.
I love the red, white, pink and I think orange or yellow. And of course the trees add green in there.  Notice the paper cut outs. You can order them with your name and date on them or just a picture of doves, etc. Here is a link for more pictures.

I love the orange, pink and green in these.
